Infertility

Infertility can not only be an emotionally stressful condition, but also an expensive one to treat. In the US, the average in-vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment costs $12,400. It is estimated that up to 15% of women suffer from some type on fertility problem, and chiropractic techniques like Torque Release have shown outstanding results helping them conceive.

In one situation, two women who’d been declared infertile and were considering IVF. Upon presentation, complete chiropractic evaluations detected spinal subluxations. Torque Release Technique Protocols were utilized for both evaluation and treatment. Adjustments were performed with an instrument, the Integrator, to improve spinal-neural integrity. During the course of chiropractic care both women were able to conceive naturally.

Another 31-year-old woman had her nervous system evaluated at husband’s encouragement. They were under medical treatment for infertility as they had been attempting to become pregnant for over 12 months, and the woman had been taking Clomiphine Citrate (clomid) for 3 months. The initial chiropractic examination revealed increased aberrant autonomic and motor nervous system function, detected on the thermography scans and sEMG scans, respectively. For the first three months (21 visits) of care the practice member received Diversified chiropractic adjustments followed by four months (12 visits) of Torque Release adjustments. The Torque Release Technique (TRT) utilizes the Intergratorô, a torque and recoil release adjusting instrument and three phases comprised the evaluation. After one month of care the practice member chose to stop taking clomid. By the third month of care she reported having normal menses for two months and drug-free ovulation by month four. Nine months after chiropractic wellness care, she conceived and successfully completed a full-term pregnancy.

A 27-year-old female sought chiropactic care to improve her overall health, in the hope that she may ultimately be able to have a child. In the previous year she had suffered two miscarriages, and had not ovulated for nine months. She was under medical treatment for infertility and ulcerative colitis, and followed a restrictive diet. Prior to attempting to become pregnant, she had been using birth control pills for 7 years. Examination protocols of Torque Release Technique (TRT) were utilized to detect vertebral subluxations. Adjustments were applied with the Integrator instrument; the initial visit schedule was twice weekly for 30 days, and then one visit per week for an additional 30 days. After 60 days of care, a normal ovulatory cycle occurred, and she became pregnant after her second normal cycle.

Although chiropractic care is not a treatment for infertility, it is postulated that improvement of spinal-neural integrity through specific chiropractic adjustments may have contributed to improved homeostasis and physiological adaptation, thus allowing the body to express a greater level of health as an outcome. Various effects via the reduction of the vertebral subluxation complex are postulated.

Menstrual Health

Many women who have suffered from a wide variety of pain, pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS), bladder problems, bowel cramps, and sexual dysfunctions have discovered the natural benefits of chiropractic. The spine protects the nerve bundle that controls the reproductive and endocrine (hormonal) systems. If there is subluxation (nerve interference) affecting the relationship between the spine and nerve bundle, this may impact the function of the organs. Chiropractors remove nerve interference which restores the optimal function to the reproductive system.

One study compared 25 women who suffered from PMS. This study estimated that between 10 and 20% of reproductive-aged women have severe symptoms associated with this condition. The study included chiropractic adjustments for a ten-day period prior to the beginning of each patient’s cycle. The women were asked to monitor their symptoms and rate the severity on a scale of 0 (none) to 3 (severe). The results showed a reduction in symptoms ranging between 42% and 32% for the group that received chiropractic for only a short time. These findings encourage the researchers, who conclude, “results support the hypothesis that the symptoms associated with PMS can be reduced by chiropractic.

Pregnancy

Chiropractic plays a critical role in the pregnancy process. The nervous system is in full control of the reproductive system so it is essential that it is functioning properly without any nerve interference so insure a healthy pregnancy. Chiropractors are extensively trained on locating and removing nerve interference in order to allow the body to function properly.

One of the best reasons to see a chiropractor during your pregnancy is that is a natural drug-free option. Chiropractic care can help maintain pregnancy, control vomiting, produce healthier infants, and deliver the infant in a shorter amount of time. Over 60% of women suffer from some type of low back pain during their pregnancy. One study compared 17 pregnant women with a pain rating of 5.9/10 who received chiropractic care throughout their pregnancy. During chiropractic care their scores dropped to 1.5/10 or below. One of the greatest benefits is that regular chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy have been proven to decrease labor time by up to 60%. Adjustments can be administered all the way up to – and even during – labor if called for.

One of the most traumatic events any of else will ever go through is the birth process. It can put an enormous amount of stress of the infant’s neck. It is vital to have the infant checked within his/her first few weeks of life to ensure he/she has no nerve interference and a properly functioning nervous system to give that child the best chances of growing up healthy. The mother should continue with care as well as chiropractic has shown great benefits with postpartum depression as well as all the emotional stress associated with having an infant.

What will the chiropractor do?

It is essential that a future mother has her body as strong and healthy as possible to ensure good function of her reproductive organs. The slightest amount of pressure leading to nerve interference can cause these systems not to work right leading to adverse effects to the mother and her developing baby. A scientifically based chiropractor will use state of the art technology to find these interferences and correct them with a gentle specific scientific adjustment.

A few of the many benefits or regular chiropractic:

  • 60% shorter labor time (all moms love this one!)

What about after I have the baby?

Sometimes an infant’s spine can be harmed at birth! This is a very traumatic process so it is crucial for the mom and child to get checked for nerve interference as soon as they can after the child is born. Even if you had a “natural easy birth” wouldn’t you want to have you baby checked so ensure they grow up healthy and happy they way they were meant to?
